A Van-life Adventure Through Jackson, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone

March 25, 2024

Our recent adventure through Jackson, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone National Park was a testament to just how beautiful this part of the country is. From savoring the local snacks to embracing the chaos, every moment was a chapter in our unforgettable journey.

Jackson: Enjoying History

Our exploration began in the heart of Jackson, where the Jackson Drug Co. not only served as a gastronomical delight but also a dive into the town's rich history. Since 1919, this family-owned gem has been dishing out local beef and heartwarming stories, along with gluten-free options that had my daughter, Laina, grinning ear to ear. The milkshakes and malts? Absolutely unmissable.

The Jackson Playhouse holds a dear spot in our hearts, having been the catalyst for Laina's acting career. Watching "Annie Get Your Gun" marked our third visit, each performance leaving us more enchanted than the last. The talent and warmth of the cast and crew are what make this historical building more than just a theater; they're family.

The Virginian offered us more than just a stay; it was an experience wrapped in warmth and convenience. From the welcoming s’mores kit to the serene heated pool and the majestic view of the fall colors, it was the perfect off-season haven. A stop at Hide Out Leathers had me walking out feeling like a rockstar. The longest-running shop in Jackson Square, it offered an eclectic mix of stylish hats, earrings, and much more, all served up with knowledge and kindness.

Adventure Awaits: Exum Climbing and Teton Mountaineering

Our adventure wouldn't be complete without the exhilarating climbs facilitated by Exum Climbing. Laina's confidence soared as she tackled climbs and repels under the watchful eye of our kind guide, Aili. Teton Mountaineering was also on our list, where Laina found her perfect climbing shoes and even got a piece of climbing rope, sparking a newfound love for the sport.

Grand Tetons and Yellowstone: Nature’s Marvels

Staying at Colter Bay RV Park within Grand Teton National Park allowed us daily walks, kayaking, and wildlife sightings, including a grizzly bear and a moose! The ranger talks proved invaluable for homeschooling, turning nature into a classroom.

Our journey through Yellowstone was filled with awe, from the anticipation at Old Faithful to the mesmerizing mist of the Grand Prismatic Spring. It reminded us to always come prepared (snacks are a must!), and to embrace the unexpected delights of the road.

A Stay to Remember: My Wyoming Life Harvest Host

Our visit to My Wyoming Life Harvest Host was the cherry on top of this section of the trip. The kindness and quality produce from the farm store made our stay simple yet magical, waking up to the sounds of farm life was a refreshing change of pace.

This trip was more than just the first leg of our roadtrip; it was a journey of discovery, learning, and immense joy. With Jackson's rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmth of its people, it's left an indelible mark on us.
